Instructor Essentials TOT Course

The Instructor Essentials Courses are taught in a three-part blended learning format which includes:
– Online Modules
– Physical Workshop (three days)
– Apprenticeship (six months)

Who should take this course?
The Instructor Essentials (TOT) workshop is open for those who already have a valid provider certificate in the course they wish to instruct.

What you expect to learn:
– The Instructor Cycle
– Principles of Adult Learning
– The Teaching and Learning Processes
– The Four Domains to Facilitate Learning
– Mastery of Resuscitation Skills
– Education in Resuscitation Science
– Contextual teaching and learning
– Objective assessment and testing of learners

Course Duration:
Three days practical workshop (approx. 24 hours contact time) followed by six months apprenticeship until all mentorship objectives are achieved.

Requirements for the TOT Course:
1. Familiarize with the Program Administration Manual (PAM document)

2. Specifics per course discipline one intends to teach:

a) BLS Instructors
– must have valid BLS Provider Certificate
– familiarize with BLS Instructor Manual
– complete the required online modules

b) ACLS Instructors
– must have valid ACLS Provider Certificate
– familiarize with ACLS Instructor Manual
– complete the required online modules

c) PALS Instructors
– must have valid PALS Provider Certificate
– familiarize with PALS Instructor Manual
– complete the required online modules

3. Attend a scheduled Instructor Essentials Training workshop conducted by a TF
– there will be a written MCQ exam (passmark 84%)

4. Participate as an Instructor Candidate in scheduled provider courses until all mentorship objectives are achieved
– mentorship could take a minimum two weeks or max 6 months depending how one is pro-active

5. Be certified as a qualified Instructor and join the Global Instructor’s Network 🎓

N/B:
6. For Trauma Care Instructors
– must have a valid Advanced Trauma provider card e.g. ATC, ATLS, TNCC, PHTLS, ITLS
– must attended a generic TOT workshop conducted by a Trauma TF
– participate as an Instructor Candidate during planned trauma provider courses, for mentorship, until all mentorship objectives are met 🎓
