Empowering the Women’s Ministry with Life‑Saving First Aid Skills

At Prime Care Trainers (PCT), we believe that first aid knowledge belongs in every home, church, and community. Through our #FirstAidMtaani initiative, we are taking essential life‑saving skills directly to the people — where emergencies actually happen.

Recently, we had the privilege of conducting a #FirstAidMtaani activation for the Women’s Ministry of ACK Church, St. Stephen’s Kasarani, equipping the women with practical first aid skills to confidently respond to everyday emergencies.

Why #FirstAidMtaani?

Medical emergencies don’t wait for ambulances or hospitals — they happen at home, in church, on the road, and within our communities. The goal of #FirstAidMtaani is simple but powerful:

  • Build community-level emergency readiness
  • Empower ordinary people to become first responders
  • Reduce preventable deaths and complications through early intervention

By training community groups such as church ministries, we strengthen the first link in the chain of survival.

Training the Women’s Ministry of ACK St. Stephen’s Kasarani

The Women’s Ministry plays a vital role in families and communities — often caring for children, the elderly, and the sick. This made them ideal champions for first aid knowledge.

During the session, participants engaged in interactive discussions, demonstrations, and hands‑on practice, making the training practical, relatable, and easy to remember.

What the Participants Learned

The training focused on common emergencies encountered in daily life, including:

🔸 Principles of First Aid
Understanding scene safety, calling for help, and protecting oneself while assisting others.

🔸 Medical‑Legal Considerations
What to do — and what not to do — when offering first aid, including consent and Good Samaritan principles.

🔸 Managing Medical Emergencies

  • Heart Attack
  • Fainting vs. Cardiac Arrest
  • Seizures
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Diabetic emergencies

🔸 Bleeding and Wound Care
Hands‑on techniques for controlling bleeding and caring for minor and major wounds.

🔸 Burns and Scalds
Immediate first aid actions to reduce tissue damage and complications.

🔸 Choking and Basic Airway Support
Recognising airway emergencies and responding effectively.

🔸 Injuries and Fractures
Basic care for sprains, strains, and suspected fractures.

Practical, Confidence‑Building Training

The session emphasized:

  • Hands‑on practice, not just theory
  • Real‑life scenarios from homes, churches, and community settings
  • Building confidence to act, not panic, during emergencies

Many participants expressed increased confidence in their ability to respond to emergencies involving family members, fellow congregants, and neighbours.

Strengthening Communities Through the Church

Churches are powerful centres for community transformation. By equipping the Women’s Ministry of ACK St. Stephen’s Kasarani, this activation has created multiple first responders within the community — women who are now better prepared to protect life and offer help when it matters most.

Prime Care Trainers applauds the leadership of ACK St. Stephen’s Kasarani for prioritising health, safety, and preparedness within the church.
